July 29, 2010Not one but two
July 23, 2010The last day of the bracelet week. It’s been almost therapeutic to hunt around for old beads to make into bracelets. I’ve found some interesting bits that I had forgotten about and some old friends as well. I must have some deep rooted hoarding instinct. Or the memory of a goldfish. Here’s not one but two bracelets. The first one is cheating slightly as the beads weren’t made by me. See you tomorrow at the Whitecross Street Party.
Rummaged bracelet
July 21, 2010I’m trying to make a bracelet every day this week. But I can’t make any new beads up. Instead I have to make a bracelet from whatever I already have lying around. I rummaged around and found these beads in a box in a drawer a mere 18 months after I made them . Add some spacer beads and elastic and here’s my offering for day three.
Day two of bracelet week.
July 20, 2010A bracelet a day
July 19, 2010I need to exercise my hand and get it back to normal. So I’ve decided to make a bracelet each day this week to get back into the swing of making jewellery again. But I ‘m not yet letting polymer clay near the almost healed wound so I can’t make any new beads. I’ ll have to use up whatever I have already lying around. I suspect that it will get harder as the week goes on and I get down to the beads that I’ve never been able to find a use for. Today is easy though . I’ve got some black and white marbled discs that I made a while ago. Once drilled and sanded, they make quite a striking bracelet.
Another day, another bracelet
June 25, 2010Satin smooth
June 18, 2010Here’s a couple of new bracelets that will appear on my website next week . Each bead has been sanded by hand with 5 different grits of sandpaper. I’ve used a new kind of ‘cushioned’ sandpaper from the USA which produces a very smooth finish, almost like satin. There’s no need for varnish and the beads end up with a very natural feel. Very tactile.
The sound of beads
June 3, 2010At last the sun is shining on London after what seems like a week of constant rain and grey. Lets pretend it’s summer. Here’s a bracelet and earring set made with ‘petal’ shaped beads. The pattern has come out a bit darker than I anticipated. An unexpected feature is a faint clicking noise it makes when you move your wrist. I quite like the effect. But should I now start designing for sound as well as colour and form ? Choosing beads for their sonic qualities rather than colour is an interesting idea.
