Here are some more of the ‘geological’ pieces that I made while experimenting with extruded clay. They still need to be sanded and varnished before they are ready to be worn.

More messing around
May 15, 2010Just messing around
May 12, 2010I’ve had a bit of time recently to experiment with different ideas. I tried mixing up old and new clay together and then I forced the mixture through an extruder. The results were quite interesting. The beads ended up with a geological look - almost like rocks with the strata showing through. I haven’t decided yet how to string them.
The pendant and earrings aren’t finished yet. They still need sanding and varnishing. You can see parts where the old and dry clay is forcing through the new clay and creating texture and a ripple effect. It gives the illusion almost of brushstrokes in places.
