It’s traditional to have bad weather over bank holiday weekends. So today it’s raining heavily in London and the forecast is for even more of the same tomorrow. But for my friends in Andalucia the weather is glorious. Today is the Dia del Nispero, the day of the Nispero. In a small mountain village they will be enjoying a fiesta to celebrate the harvest of the Nispero. This is a small yellow coloured fruit that tastes like a cross between a peach and plum. It is used in a variety of dishes and makes a particularly delicious liqueur. Unusually for a fruit tree, it flowers in autumn and winter and produces its fruit in early spring.
The fiesta is a great occasion that brings everybody together in celebration of the harvest . Sadly this year I can’t be there to join in. So to my Andalucian friends…. salud !
