I was shocked and saddened to discover that Lhasa de Sela had died. She was only 37. She died of cancer on New Years Day, a piece of news that I had somehow completely missed. She was a unique songwriter with a wonderful voice full of passion and emotion. Her songs were deceptively simple, sometimes dark and often a bit mysterious. Lhasa was born of Mexican /American parents and lived in Montreal. She sang in French, Spanish and English.
